Volnay
High perched on the Côte de Beaune, narrow and steep to leave all the vines comfortable, Volnay is backed by a small mountain, forming a slight bend in the general orientation of the slopes: from the east to the south-east. The typicality of the vineyard was affirmed from the 18th century. This Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée established in 1937 is accompanied by Volnay-Santenots produced in Meursault. Its limestone can be compared to that of the Morvan. Pink, containing grains of a beautiful pale green, it supports schistose. At the top of the hill, very limestone terrain. Then a white argovien limestone going down the slope, light and chalky in appearance. Lower down, the Bathonian limestone is stony, ferruginous, reddish. The foothills are made of deeper, gravelly soils.
